Wasco County History Book

Wasco County celebrated its 150th anniversary in January 2004, marking the sesquicentennial of the largest county created in the United States. "Wasco County: 150 Years" tells the story of Wasco County, profiling its various communities and describing major events throughout its long history. Lots of historic photos, and the book also features a 150-year timeline from 1854 to 2004.

Wasco County Pioneer Cemetery

The Pioneer Cemetery
The Dalles , Oregon
1860

In this volume, compiled and assembled by Earline Wasser, a century of research by Lulu Crandall, George Brown, Daphne Hon Ramsey, Lottie LeGett Gurley, Cheryl Gates, Anita Drake, and Lorna Elliott, is combined with many hours of research in the vaults at The Dalles Chronicle, to provide a definitive (as we know it at this point) and highly annotated list of burials in this cemetery located just below Columbia Gorge Community College on East Scenic Drive in The Dalles. All profits go toward the purchase of a granite monument listing all burials in the cemetery.

The Pioneer Cemetery, The Dalles Oregon, sells for $20.00 a copy plus postage and handling. It and other Columbia Gorge Genealogical Society publications are available at http://community.gorge.net/genealogy, by mailing a request to Columbia Gorge Genealogical Society c/o The Dalles/Wasco County Library, 722 Court Street, The Dalles, Oregon 97058, or by calling 541-298-1240.

The Mid-Columbia Old Time Music Club CD
"The Way It Was"

Brought to the Gorge via horseback, wagon train, steamboat, railroad, and Model T automobile -- this historic music ranges from early 17th Century to mid 20th Century.

It's roots are found in England, Scotland, Eastcoast, Appalachia, The Ozarks, The South, Canada, and the Old West. Played by "old timers" from The Dalles, Mosier, Maupin, and Hood River. Led by Glenn Betchart, son of an Ozark Mountain fiddler-on-horseback. Recorded live by gorge photographer Paul Kuiper in 1978 and remastered in 2002 for heartwarming, footstomping, earfilling fidelity.
For sale at The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, Fort Dalles Museum and Klindts Book Sellers and Stationers.
